Amfexa tablets contain dexamfetamine sulfate (also known as dexamfetamine or dextroamphetamine), a potent central nervous system (CNS) stimulant. It is licensed in many countries for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents aged 6–17 years when previous treatment with methylphenidate has not provided adequate clinical response. It is sometimes used off-label or unlicensed in adults under specialist supervision.

How Amfexa Works Dexamfetamine increases the release and inhibits the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain. This enhances alertness, focus, and executive function while reducing hyperactivity and impulsivity. Effects typically begin within 30–60 minutes and last 4–6 hours for immediate-release tablets, making it suitable for tailored dosing throughout the day.

Main Uses:

• Management of ADHD symptoms (poor concentration, hyperactivity, impulsivity)
• Part of a full treatment plan that includes psychological, educational, and social interventions
• Occasionally used for narcolepsy (excessive daytime sleepiness) under specialist care

Dosage Guidance (always follow specialist advice):

• Children & adolescents (6–17 years): Starting dose usually 5 mg once or twice daily, increased gradually by 5 mg weekly. Maximum typically 20 mg/day (rarely up to 40 mg).
• Adults: Use is often unlicensed; dosing starts low (e.g., 5 mg twice daily) and is titrated carefully, with maximums up to 40–60 mg/day in some cases.
• Tablets should be taken with or after food, usually in the morning and early afternoon to avoid sleep disturbance.
