Neurontin 400mg

$ 166

Neurontin 400mg (gabapentin) by Pfizer is an anticonvulsant medication used for the management of postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain following shingles) and as adjunctive therapy for partial onset seizures in adults and children aged 3 years and older with epilepsy.

Each orange capsule contains 400mg of gabapentin, which works by modulating calcium channels in the nervous system to reduce abnormal nerve activity and pain signals. It is taken orally, usually three times daily.

Key Benefits:

  • Proven relief from shingles-related nerve pain
  • Helps control partial seizures when combined with other antiepileptics
  • Manufactured by Pfizer under strict quality standards

Neurontin 400mg capsules contain the active ingredient gabapentin, an anticonvulsant (antiepileptic) medication originally developed by Pfizer. It is FDA-approved for two main indications: management of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) in adults — the persistent burning, stabbing nerve pain that can last months or years after a shingles outbreak — and as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial onset seizures, with or without secondary generalization, in adults and pediatric patients 3 years of age and older with epilepsy.

How Neurontin 400mg Works Gabapentin binds to the α2-δ subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system. This reduces the release of excitatory neurotransmitters, thereby decreasing abnormal nerve firing responsible for seizures and neuropathic pain. It does not directly bind to GABA receptors despite structural similarity to the neurotransmitter GABA.

Common Uses:

  • Relief of nerve pain after shingles (postherpetic neuralgia)
  • Add-on treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy
  • Sometimes prescribed off-label for other neuropathic pain conditions or restless legs syndrome (under medical supervision)

Dosage and Administration For postherpetic neuralgia, treatment often starts with a single 300mg dose on day 1, increasing to 600mg/day on day 2 and 900mg/day on day 3, then titrated up to a maximum of 1800mg/day (or higher in some cases) divided into three doses. The 400mg capsules allow flexible dosing. For epilepsy in patients 12 years and older, the starting dose is typically 300mg three times daily, titrated as needed up to 600mg three times daily. Doses must be adjusted in patients with kidney impairment. Capsules should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken with or without food. The maximum interval between doses should not exceed 12 hours.

Quality Assurance Neurontin 400mg capsules are orange hard gelatin capsules imprinted with “PD” on the body and “Neurontin/400 mg” on the cap. They are produced by Pfizer (Parke-Davis) to rigorous GMP standards and supplied in blister packs or bottles for authenticity and protection.

Warnings and Precautions Neurontin can cause significant drowsiness, dizziness, and coordination problems, increasing the risk of falls. It may also lead to respiratory depression, especially when combined with opioids, alcohol, or other CNS depressants. Rare but serious risks include suicidal thoughts or behavior (as with other antiepileptic drugs), severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis or angioedema), and withdrawal symptoms if stopped suddenly. Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed, and caution is advised in breastfeeding.

Common side effects include somnolence (sleepiness), fatigue, peripheral edema (swelling), ataxia, and viral infections. Regular monitoring by a healthcare provider is essential, particularly when starting or adjusting the dose.

If you suffer from persistent nerve pain after shingles or uncontrolled partial seizures, Neurontin 400mg may provide effective relief when used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that may include other therapies. Always consult your physician or neurologist to determine if this medication is appropriate for your condition and to receive proper dosing instructions.
