Vyvanse capsules contain lisdexamfetamine dimesylate, a prodrug stimulant indicated for the treatment of ADHD and moderate to severe binge eating disorder (BED) in adults. Once ingested, it is slowly converted in the bloodstream to active dextroamphetamine, delivering consistent therapeutic effects with a lower risk of abrupt peaks and crashes.

How Vyvanse Works Lisdexamfetamine increases the levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain, enhancing executive function, attention, and impulse control. Its unique prodrug formulation means it is inactive until metabolized, which contributes to its smoother profile and reduced potential for abuse via non-oral routes.

• ADHD in children (≥6 years), adolescents, and adults
• Moderate to severe binge eating disorder in adults

Dosage and Administration Vyvanse is taken once daily in the morning, with or without food. Starting dose for ADHD is typically 30mg, titrated weekly in 10mg or 20mg increments up to a maximum of 70mg/day. For binge eating disorder, the target dose is usually 50–70mg/day. Capsules can be swallowed whole or the contents dissolved in water/yogurt for those who have difficulty swallowing. Do not divide doses or take in the afternoon/evening to avoid insomnia.

Warnings and Precautions Vyvanse is a Schedule II controlled substance with significant potential for abuse, addiction, dependence, and diversion. Serious cardiovascular risks exist, including sudden death, stroke, and heart attack, particularly in patients with pre-existing heart conditions. Common side effects include decreased appetite, insomnia, dry mouth, anxiety, irritability, and increased heart rate/blood pressure.

Contraindicated in patients with advanced arteriosclerosis, symptomatic cardiovascular disease, moderate to severe hypertension, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, or history of drug abuse. Avoid use with MAO inhibitors. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, height, and weight (especially in children) is required. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
